HMB, or hydroxymethylbutyrate, is a metabolite or breakdown product of the essential amino acid leucine and is naturally produced by the human body. Amino acids are the building blocks of proteins, which in turn are the building blocks of muscles. HMB can also be obtained through diet (e.g. citrus fruits, avocado, cauliflower). To reach an daily dose of 3 g of HMB per day, approximately 600 g of high-quality protein would need to be consumed. Amino acids are the building blocks of proteins, which contribute to the growth and maintenance of muscle mass.

To support the statement that 3 g of HMB corresponds to an intake of approximately 600 g of high-quality protein, we refer to the following scientific publications:

Liu et al. (2023), Advances in nutritional supplementation for sarcopenia, Frontiers in Nutrition 10:1189522, which describes that a daily dose of about 3 g of HMB corresponds to an intake of approximately 60 g of leucine.

Who can benefit from HMB 1000?

HMB 1000 is particularly recommended in situations where the muscles are subjected to high levels of strain. This is especially the case:

  • during strength training (explosive athletes such as sprinters, throwers and jumpers; weightlifters; bodybuilders, etc.) and during resistance training (middle-distance runners, team and racket sports athletes);

Nutritional information

Usage

It is recommended to take HMB chronically (= long-term) for at least 2 weeks, both on training and non-training days. The optimal dose is 3 grams per day (4 tablets).
