Are all products tested for prohibited substances and guaranteed doping-free?

ABSOLUTELY! At Etixx we do everything we can to guarantee the quality, safety and purity of our products. That is why all Etixx products carry the internationally recognised quality label Informed Sport.

Informed Sport is one of Europe's most leading certification programmes in the field of doping free sports nutrition and applies the strictest quality standards within the industry. This quality label guarantees that every production batch of our complete assortment is tested by an independent accredited laboratory. This ensures that our products are free from prohibited substances and can be safely used by both professional and recreational athletes.

What makes Informed Sport extra reliable is that the controls do not stop after the initial certification. This strict testing process is based on more than 55 years of expertise in anti doping research and is continuously further refined, with more than 22,000 sample analyses per year.

Furthermore, Informed Sport stands for maximum transparency. By entering the batch number of your product, which can be found on the packaging, on the website of Informed Sport, you can consult the test report digitally at any time.

When you choose Etixx, you choose sports nutrition you can rely on with confidence, with the assurance that our products have been carefully checked and meet the highest standards in terms of purity and safety.

Are Etixx products suitable for children and adolescents?

All Etixx products have primarily been developed for adult athletes. The recommended daily doses are specifically tailored to their needs. Young people from the age of 16 who train regularly and intensively may consider using certain Etixx products. Which products are suitable and how often they can be used depends on the training intensity, the performance level being pursued and the type of sport.

We strongly recommend that the use of sports nutrition or supplements in young people always be discussed with a coach, sports dietitian, doctor or other professional supervisor. They can help assess which support is meaningful and responsible within a balanced nutrition and training plan.

For children under the age of 16, we advise against the use of products containing caffeine and specific dietary supplements. A balanced and varied basic diet always remains the most important pillar for healthy growth, recovery and sports performance at a young age.

Can pregnant women use Etixx products?

The use of Etixx products during pregnancy is strongly recommended to always be discussed with your gynaecologist first. Your doctor is best placed to assess which products are safe for you and your baby, depending on your personal situation and nutritional needs. Although some products may fit perfectly within a balanced diet, other ingredients such as caffeine or specific active components may require extra attention during pregnancy. The health and safety of mother and child always come first. Professional advice is therefore essential before using sports nutrition or supplements during this period.

Are Etixx products suitable for people with diabetes (type 1 and 2)?

Because diabetes is a medical condition in which food choices and carbohydrate intake need to be carefully managed, we cannot provide a general answer to this. Whether an Etixx product is suitable depends on various personal factors, such as the type of diabetes, your treatment, daily dietary pattern, sports intensity and more. A medical professional can assess which products best match your personal situation and help determine how these can potentially be incorporated into your dietary plan.

On the product pages and packaging you will always find detailed nutritional information and ingredient lists, so that you can make a well considered choice together with your doctor.

What can I do to prevent or delay muscle acidification?

During high-intensity exercise, the body produces lactic acid, which is then broken down into lactate and acidic hydrogen ions (H+). An accumulation of these H+ ions causes the acidity level (pH) in the muscles to drop. When this happens, muscle function decreases and you may experience typical acidosis symptoms, such as a burning sensation, muscle stiffness, reduced strength and faster fatigue. The more intense the effort, the faster this process occurs.

Fortunately, the body has natural buffer systems that help counteract this acidification. An important muscle buffer is carnosine, a substance that helps to absorb excess H+ ions and thereby slow down the drop in pH levels in the muscles. Carnosine is built up from beta-alanine and histidine. Since histidine is generally present in sufficient quantities in the body, beta-alanine is the limiting factor. By taking additional beta-alanine through Etixx Beta Alanine Slow Release, the carnosine stores in the muscles can be increased. This improves the buffering capacity of the muscles, allowing acidification to be delayed and enabling you to sustain intensive efforts for longer. Since beta-alanine works through gradual build-up in the body, daily and prolonged intake is necessary to experience its effects.

For optimal results, we recommend:

  • 4-week course: 4 x 2 tablets per day, or
  • 8-week course: 2 x 2 tablets per day

Ideally, start 4 to 8 weeks before an important competition or intensive training period. In addition to targeted supplementation, a well-structured training programme, sufficient recovery and appropriate nutrition remain essential to delay muscle acidification for as long as possible.

What is the difference between carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins & minerals, and fluids?

You can only perform exercise when our body and muscles receive sufficient fuel. This is logical, as exercise is performed through muscular work, which is only possible when there is energy available to make our muscles function. This can be compared to a car that has no fuel. It will not be able to drive far, and the same applies to an athlete who has not taken on sufficient fuel before or during exercise.

Carbohydrates (sugars) are the best source of fuel for generating muscular work. Fats can also provide energy and have the advantage of producing more energy compared to carbohydrates. 1 gram of fat provides 9 kcal of energy, while 1 gram of carbohydrates provides only 4 kcal. However, fats have the disadvantage that they are not suitable as a fuel source in every sports situation. An athlete can only use fat as an energy source if a few conditions are met:

  1. First of all, a sufficient oxygen supply is required for fat burning. Research has shown that for effective fat burning, the heart rate should not exceed 60 to 70 percent of the maximum heart rate.
  2. Carnitine is an important substance needed to burn fat. Without carnitine, an athlete is less able to burn fat efficiently. This is important information for vegetarians, as carnitine is abundantly present in animal products.
  3. An athlete who is not trained to use fat as energy will find it more difficult to utilise fats during exercise. Training on an empty stomach is the best way to teach your body to use fat as energy. During such a fasted training session, our body is forced to use fat instead of carbohydrates. In doing so, our body produces fat burning enzymes that are needed to convert fat into glucose. An athlete who does not have these enzymes during a competition will find it more difficult to burn fat and will only be able to use carbohydrates.

It is important for an athlete to consume sufficient building blocks for optimal muscle recovery. After intensive exercise, the muscles are damaged and require protein to repair this damage and build additional muscle mass.

Athletes generally have a higher need for protective substances, namely vitamins and minerals. Due to over cultivation and excessive fertilisation, our agricultural soils have become depleted, meaning that our fruit and vegetables today contain far fewer vitamins and minerals than they did 50 years ago. This reduced presence of vitamins and minerals in our fruit and vegetables, combined with an insufficient intake, means that athletes need to pay extra attention to consuming adequate amounts of fruit and vegetables. Variety is also a very important factor in this regard.

Drinking sufficiently on a daily basis, as well as before, during and after exercise, is of crucial importance to avoid dehydration and prevent a loss of performance. It is well known that from a fluid loss of 2% of body weight onwards, a significant drop in performance occurs.

What is the difference between an isotonic sports drink and a hypertonic sports drink?

The difference between an isotonic and a hypertonic sports drink lies primarily in the concentration of dissolved particles, such as carbohydrates and electrolytes. This concentration determines how quickly the drink is absorbed by the body and for which purpose it is most suitable.

Isotonic sports drink

An isotonic sports drink has approximately the same concentration of dissolved particles as blood. This allows the drink to leave the stomach quickly and be absorbed efficiently by the body. This makes isotonic sports drinks ideal during exercise where both fluid and energy need to be replenished. The main benefits of an isotonic sports drink are:

  • Fast fluid absorption
  • Replenishment of electrolytes
  • Supply of energy in the form of carbohydrates
  • Support of performance during prolonged exercise

An example of this is Etixx Isotonic Drink or Isotonic Drink Tabs.

Hypertonic sports drink

A hypertonic sports drink contains a higher concentration of dissolved particles than blood and therefore has a higher osmolality. Because these drinks are processed more slowly by the stomach, fluid and energy are absorbed less quickly than with isotonic drinks. The primary purpose of a hypertonic sports drink is therefore not hydration, but the maximum replenishment of energy stores. Hypertonic sports drinks are most suitable:

  • During very prolonged exercise with a high energy demand
  • When additional carbohydrate supply is the main priority
  • In situations where fluid intake is less of a priority

An example of this is Etixx PRO LINE High Carb Drink.

Why is a healthy diet so important?

For athletes, healthy and balanced nutrition forms the basis of every performance. Your body can only function optimally when it receives all the nutrients it needs to provide energy, recover and adapt to training stimuli. Whether your goal lies in endurance, strength, recovery or general health, without the right nutritional foundation it is difficult to get the most out of your training sessions and performances.

For an optimally functioning body, four essential pillars are important:

  1. Fuels Fuels provide the energy needed to move and perform. These include primarily carbohydrates and fats, which your body uses as an energy source during exercise.
  2. Building blocks Building blocks are needed for muscle building, recovery and the maintenance of body tissues. Proteins play a crucial role in this.
  3. Protective substances These are vitamins and minerals that support numerous bodily processes, such as your immune system, energy metabolism, muscle function and recovery.
  4. Hydration Sufficient fluid intake is essential for the transport of nutrients, temperature regulation and optimal muscle function. Even a limited fluid loss can negatively affect your performance.

When any one of these four components receives insufficient attention, this can have a direct impact on your performance, recovery capacity and general health. Sports nutrition and supplements can be a valuable addition in this regard, but never replace a healthy, varied and balanced basic diet. A strong nutritional foundation always remains the cornerstone of sustainable sports performance.

Why are carbohydrates so important for recovery?

After an intensive or ultra long training session or competition, the glycogen (stored sugar) from the muscles and liver has been depleted and the muscles are fatigued. Recovery of muscle glycogen is the primary focus during recovery after extreme endurance exercise. The recommendation here is to consume 1g of carbohydrates per kg of body weight immediately after exercise, and thereafter every 2 hours during the following 6 hours, depending on the duration and intensity of the exercise.

As a result, the Recovery Shake and the Recovery Shake PRO LINE are extremely suitable for replenishing glycogen after exercise. During short duration exercise and exercise at low intensity, we primarily use fats as a fuel source. Therefore, after such exercise it is not necessary to replenish glycogen. The High Protein Shake is then the best choice to consume after exercise, as this product is a low carbohydrate protein shake and contains no added sugars. The High Protein Shake is therefore best suited for athletes who want to manage their weight.

Is sports nutrition the same as healthy eating?

No, sports nutrition is not the same as eating healthily, but it can be a valuable addition to it. A healthy and balanced basic diet always remains the most important foundation for sports performance and recovery. It provides your body with the essential nutrients it needs to function properly. Because athletes often train more intensively and have a higher physical workload than non athletes, their nutritional needs are usually also higher. They often require an increased intake of:

  • Macronutrients such as carbohydrates, proteins and fats
  • Micronutrients such as vitamins, minerals and trace elements
  • Fluids for optimal hydration

It is not always easy to meet these increased needs exclusively through regular food at the right time and in the right quantities. In such situations, sports nutrition can be a practical and effective supplement. Which sports nutrition is suitable depends on various factors, such as the type of sport, the duration and intensity of your exercise and the goals you want to achieve, such as improved performance, faster recovery or muscle building.

Preguntas sobre el producto

What is the advantage of Etixx Iron 125AA, in which iron is present in amino acid chelate form?

When iron is present in amino acid chelate form, iron is bound to 2 glycine molecules. Glycine is a very small amino acid and therefore very well absorbed. This specific chelate bond is very strong, which means that iron will be absorbed intact as iron bisglycinate through the intestines into the blood, thanks to the numerous amino acid receptors. The chelate bond and bisglycinate form therefore ensure a higher bioavailability and optimal absorption of iron.

Are Etixx Energy Gels gluten-free?

The Etixx Energy Gels carry the label 'gluten free'. This means that the gluten content in the gels is a maximum of 20 mg/kg of gluten. However, they are produced in a production environment where gluten is also present, so they may possibly contain traces of gluten, which is important information for athletes who are extremely sensitive to gluten.

Is it possible to experience a tingling sensation after using beta-alanine?

Yes, that is possible. This phenomenon is called paraesthesia and usually manifests itself as a temporary tingling or prickling sensation, often on the skin. Although this can sometimes be experienced as unpleasant, it is completely harmless.

Etixx Beta Alanine uses a slow release formula. This means that the beta alanine is gradually released into the body, which significantly reduces the chance of paraesthesia compared to classic beta alanine supplements. Nevertheless, it cannot be completely ruled out that some individuals are more sensitive to this and may still experience a mild tingling sensation.

To minimise this as much as possible, we recommend taking the tablets spread throughout the day and preferably during a meal. Especially when you are sensitive to paraesthesia, this can help to reduce the discomfort.

Which Etixx products may be useful if you often suffer from muscle cramps?

To prevent muscle cramps, maintaining a good fluid balance is extremely important.

Etixx Isotonic:

  • Ideal sports drink during exercise for all athletes from any sport.
  • Source of carbohydrates, additional minerals and fluids.
  • Recommendation: minimum 500ml per hour of exercise.

Magnesium 2000 AA / Magnesium Instant Stick / Magnesium 100% Bisglycinate PRO LINE:

  • Magnesium is an important mineral that plays a role in more than 300 reactions in our body.
  • Magnesium is important for electrolyte balance. An imbalance or deficiency could possibly lead to cramps.
  • Recommendation: course of at least 4 weeks. A course may be repeated several times per year.

Sport Hydro Tab (in very warm weather):

  • Sport Hydro Tab is a low calorie effervescent tablet with a high concentration of the important minerals lost through sweat. Please note, this tablet contains no carbohydrates and is therefore not suitable for replenishing energy.
  • Ideal product for athletes who sweat a lot or the so called "salty sweaters".
  • Recommendation: ½ to 1 tablet in 500ml of water.

Beta Alanine Slow Release:

  • Chronic, daily use can lead to delaying muscle acidification.
  • Recommendation: start supplementation 4 to 8 weeks before peak moment.
How much sodium does an Etixx Magnesium 2000AA effervescent tablet contain?

The effervescent tablet contains 760mg of sodium bicarbonate.
100g of sodium bicarbonate contains 27.36mg of sodium.
760mg (the amount in the effervescent tablet) therefore contains 0.21mg of sodium.

Does Etixx Isotonic contain enough sodium?

Yes. Etixx Isotonic contains 276mg of sodium per 500ml, which corresponds to 552mg of sodium per litre. This amount falls perfectly within the generally recommended guidelines for sports drinks during prolonged exercise. International sports nutrition guidelines typically recommend a sodium concentration between 460 and 690mg per litre to optimally compensate for fluid loss through sweating and to support fluid absorption.

Sodium plays an important role during exercise as it helps to:

  • Retain fluid more effectively
  • Promote fluid absorption
  • Support electrolyte balance
  • Stimulate the sensation of thirst

As a result, Etixx Isotonic not only supports energy replenishment, but also efficient hydration during prolonged exercise. Are you someone who sweats a lot or visibly loses a lot of salt during exercise (also known as a "salty sweater")? Then it may be advisable to additionally make use of Etixx Sport Hydro Tabs, especially in warm weather or during very prolonged exercise.

Can the Etixx High Protein Shake be heated?

Yes, the Etixx High Protein Shake can be heated. You do not need to worry about a loss of nutritional properties, as the nutritional value is retained. However, it is possible that the shake may curdle when heated, which can cause the texture and structure to change. This has no effect on the quality or nutritional value of the product, but may affect the drinking experience.

What is best to consume during the break of a team sports match?

During team sports it is important to choose fast energy during the break, so that your body has sufficient fuel for the second half or next period of play. Because rest periods are usually short, it is best to opt for carbohydrates that are absorbed quickly. For this reason, liquid or semi liquid energy sources are the most suitable choice.

Both Etixx Isotonic and Etixx Energy Gel in combination with water are good options for this.

  • Etixx Isotonic is ideal when you want to replenish both fluid, electrolytes and carbohydrates during the break.
  • Etixx Energy Gel combined with water is particularly interesting when you want to quickly take in additional carbohydrates in a compact and practical way.

The best choice depends on the duration and intensity of the exercise, your personal preference and how much fluid you have already consumed during the match. Most importantly, choose a strategy that you have tested in advance during training, so that your body responds well to it on match day.

Which Etixx products may be useful for multi-day motorcycle rallies in high temperatures, similar to the Dakar Rally?

When sweating heavily, it is important to (re)hydrate properly.

Etixx Isotonic is an isotonic sports drink that not only provides carbohydrates (energy), but also contains electrolytes for an optimal fluid balance. However...

In extreme heat and excessive sweating, Etixx Isotonic will not be sufficient to maintain the fluid balance. In this case, it is best alternated with Etixx Sport Hydro Tab. Etixx Sport Hydro Tab offers an ideal mix of electrolytes that, in combination with water, help to restore your fluid balance. Etixx Sport Hydro Tab will replenish the four most important electrolytes lost (sodium, potassium, calcium and magnesium) in the same proportions as they are found in sweat. This low calorie effervescent tablet has been specially developed to replenish the loss of electrolytes as completely as possible, and together with water to maintain optimal hydration in tropical temperatures, and in particular for "salty sweaters".

  • Balanced formula with 4 types of electrolytes, in a similar proportion as found in sweat.
  • Low in calories.
  • Without added sugars.
  • Light and refreshing raspberry flavour.

Please note... Sport Hydro Tab contains no carbohydrates, so when energy needs to be replenished, it is best to additionally make use of an Energy Sport Bar or an Energy Gel.

Can the Etixx BCAA, Recovery Shake and High Protein Shake be used together? If so, when should each product be used?

Yes, these products can perfectly be used alongside each other. They each have a specific function within your recovery and training strategy and can, depending on the type of exercise and your sports goal, be used in a complementary way.

Etixx Recovery Shake / PRO LINE Recovery Shake

After intensive or prolonged training sessions during which you have consumed a lot of carbohydrates, it is best to opt for a Recovery Shake. These shakes help you to quickly replenish your energy stores (glycogen) as well as support your muscle recovery, thanks to high quality proteins. You have the choice between:

  • Recovery Shake: suitable after intensive training sessions or competitions.
  • PRO LINE Recovery Shake: contains higher doses of carbohydrates and proteins and is therefore particularly suitable after very heavy or prolonged exercise.

Etixx High Protein Shake

After strength training sessions or training sessions where muscle building is the main focus, the High Protein Shake is often the best choice. This shake provides approximately 25 grams of high quality proteins, without added carbohydrates, and optimally supports muscle recovery and muscle building. After less intensive training sessions, where your glycogen stores have been less heavily drawn upon, this is often also the most suitable option.

Etixx BCAA

BCAAs (leucine, isoleucine and valine) are essential amino acids that play an important role in muscle recovery and muscle building. They can be taken:

  • Before training to support the muscles during exercise.
  • After training to additionally support the recovery process.

BCAAs can therefore perfectly be combined with both the Recovery Shake and the High Protein Shake, depending on the intensity of your training and your specific goal.

What is the advantage of omega-3 in triglyceride form compared to ethyl esters?

Omega 3 fatty acids occur naturally in the form of triglycerides. This is the natural molecular structure in which fats and oils are present in food. Ethyl esters, on the other hand, are a processed form of omega 3 that is produced through chemical synthesis during certain production processes.

An omega 3 supplement based on triglycerides offers several important benefits:

  1. Better absorption Triglycerides are broken down and absorbed by the body more quickly and efficiently, resulting in a higher biological availability.
  2. Higher stability This natural form is more resistant to oxidation, which helps to better preserve the quality and freshness of the supplement.
  3. More efficient availability of EPA and DHA Due to the better absorption, the body can utilise the essential omega 3 fatty acids EPA and DHA more efficiently.

For this reason, Etixx Omega 3 exclusively contains omega 3 in triglyceride form. This ensures you have a high quality, well absorbed and qualitative source of omega 3.

What are the benefits of a 2:1 glucose-to-fructose ratio?

During intensive exercise, the body can absorb a maximum of approximately 60 grams of glucose per hour through the intestine. This is because the absorption capacity of the glucose transporter becomes saturated at a certain point. During prolonged exercise of more than three hours, this can become a limiting factor, as the body often requires a higher carbohydrate intake to maintain energy supply.

By simultaneously consuming different types of carbohydrates, such as glucose and fructose, the total absorption capacity can increase to 90 grams of carbohydrates per hour or more. This is because glucose and fructose are absorbed through different transport channels in the intestine.

Scientific studies show that products with a glucose to fructose ratio of 2:1 or 1:0.8 at intakes of up to 90 grams of carbohydrates per hour are a safe and efficient choice for most athletes. This ratio not only supports a higher carbohydrate absorption, but also contributes to better gastrointestinal comfort during prolonged exercise.

When should I use products with a 1:0.8 glucose-to-fructose ratio?

Ultra endurance athletes and well trained endurance athletes more frequently consume larger amounts of carbohydrates during exercise lasting longer than 3 hours, up to as much as 120g per hour. During intensive exercise, the body absorbs a maximum of approximately 60g of glucose per hour from the intestine due to saturation of the glucose transporter. During prolonged exercise of more than three hours, this can be a limiting factor because the need for carbohydrates is higher than 60g per hour. By simultaneously consuming different types of carbohydrates such as glucose and fructose, the total absorption of carbohydrates can increase to 90g per hour or more, since absorption occurs through two different absorption channels in the intestine.

Studies show that at intakes of more than 90g of carbohydrates per hour, ratios closer to an equal amount of glucose and fructose, such as 1:0.8, may be even better and are therefore preferred. This is partly because a larger proportion of the consumed carbohydrates can actually be utilised as energy, without exceeding the capacity of the glucose transporter. Furthermore, the risk of gastrointestinal problems is slightly lower with this ratio at such high carbohydrate intakes.

Do Etixx bars contain nuts?

The Energy Marzipan Bar and Energy Nougat Bar contain nuts (almonds). All other Etixx bars do not contain nuts as an ingredient, but nuts are used on the same production line and therefore these products may contain traces of nuts and/or peanuts.

Is it possible to prepare Carbo-Gy as a hot drink?

Yes, the Etixx Carbo-Gy Orange and Red Fruit can perfectly be prepared as a hot drink. This is why this energy drink is also excellently suited for exercise in cold weather conditions.

Should an older athlete (60+) take the same amount of collagen? And is it still as effective?

The recommendation for Etixx Collagen is 10 grams per day, both curatively and preventively. This intake is also the most appropriate for older athletes. Furthermore, it is known that collagen production decreases with age, so older athletes may benefit even more from a collagen supplement.
