Sport has been a key part of my life since I was a child. I spent years searching for the sport that would give me the most satisfaction. From dance, to judo, even to gymnastics and fitness. But nothing could match the feeling that running still gives me after all these years, time after time. I have found my release, my passion. A way to forget everything for a while and to prove to myself that I can do more than I ever thought I could.

A few years ago, I chose not to keep my passion to myself, but to share it with as many people as possible. I really wanted to inspire people, to show people around me that where there’s a will, there’s a way. And that everyone can do it. That you don’t have to exercise for twenty hours a week to call yourself a sportsperson. That it is possible to make time for yourself after a busy day at work. And that afterwards, you will feel so much better.

And that’s also how I found Etixx. A sports nutrition brand with the same vision as me. Together with Etixx, I let those around me see that nutrition plays an important role in every type of sport and every type of sports enthusiast. Whether you swim, run or cycle. Whether you are a professional cyclist and cycle 25 hours a week or meet up regularly with friends from the cycling club on a Sunday morning. Nutrition, in combination with sport, is important for both recreational and professional athletes. I have been a sports coach and blogger by trade for a while now, providing my clients and followers with a daily dose of motivation. I love this!

My favourite Etixx products

Since I exercise almost every day, I often have difficulty supplementing my usual diet with the optimum levels of protein and carbohydrates to promote muscle repair. That is why there are two Etixx products at the top of my list: the Energy Sport Bar (Raspberry flavour, really delicious) which I eat before training and the Recovery Shake or Recovery Bar which I drink/eat after an intensive training session or competition. The new High Protein Bar (cookie & cream) is my all-time favourite snack.

In addition, as a runner, I have never been spared injuries. Running is also known as a sport that puts a lot of strain on the joints and muscles. That is why I’m a big fan of the “Collagen Complex” which contributes to collagen formation for cartilage and bones to function optimally.

I am addicted to sport and passionate about cycling. A day without cycling is a day not lived. Combining a career in digital with sport and a relationship with an equally ambitious dream of a woman.

Marathon

I am Simon Debognies, a professional distance runner with the Ministry of Defence and the Runners' Lab Athletics Team. I am currently specialising in the 5000 metres and the 10000 metres. In the longer term, I want to make the step to the marathon. The running bug has been with me since I was a child, and I caught it during my first school cross-country run in the park at the end of my street. Immediately afterwards, I joined the local athletics club and the starting shot was fired for a career as an athlete. Many worn-out running shoes later, I have Belgian and European medals in my pocket, as well as experience at international championships. Now, with a lot of passion and ambition, I am working towards my next goals.

I always try to do my best in sports but studying as well. I love to study and learn new things at university. About my sports facet, I think that i’m very constant and hardworking, also quite perfectionist. I’ve gone through a bad stage this last year which forced me to stop running for an indeterminate time but i’m trying to improve my cycling to race at the highest level. I’m so glad that I can combine sports and studying in my life, that makes me so happy.
