Description

The amount of carbohydrates that are available for energy is a key factor determining performance in endurance and high-intensity intermittent exercise. Therefore, during exercise where carbohydrates are depleted, it is important that you take on additional fuel to maintain performance and avoid fatigue. This ensures that blood glucose level is maintained during exercise and restores muscle glycogen.

During events where there is significant depletion of muscle glycogen, carbohydrates need to be consumed to sustain performance and minimize fatigue. Carbohydrate stores are depleted afterapprox. 90 minutes of exercise.

How much carbohydrate should i aim for?

  • Exercises <1h:not necessary to consume carbohydrates during exercise
  • Exercises 1-2h: 30-60g carbohydrates per hour exercise. (~1-2 energy bar)
  • Exercises 2-3h: 60-90g carbohydrates per hour exercise. (~2-3 energy bars)
  • Exercises >3h: up to 90-120g carbohydrates per hour exercise.(~up to 3 energy bars)

Etixx Energy Bar Fruit Chew contains 30g of carbohydrates in an optimal 2:1 ratio (glucose:fructose) for optimal carbohydrate absorption. Additionally, it also contains 100mg of sodium per bar.



Who can benefit from using Etixx Energy Bar Fruit Chew

This bar is ideal for consumption during training sessions and competitions by endurance athletes (e.g., marathon runners, triathletes, cyclists, long-distance swimmers) and team or racket sport players (e.g., footballers, basketball players, tennis players). Additionally, it is beneficial for explosive athletes engaging in prolonged training sessions (e.g., sprinters, jumpers, throwers, weightlifters) as well as athletes performing medium-duration activities (e.g., runners, swimmers, kayakers, rowers).


Why 2:1 carbohydrate ratio

During intense exercise, the body absorbs a maximum of about 60g of glucose per hour from the gut. During prolonged exercise of more than three hours, this can be a limiting factor as carbohydrate requirements exceed 60g per hour. By adding fructose to glucose, total carbohydrate intake can be increased to 90g per hour or more. The body then absorbs glucose and fructose through two different absorption channels in the gut, allowing the body to use energy more efficiently.
